"MAGMA" - 2026
LUNDE SKOLE - FREDRIKSTAD KOMMUNES KUNSTSAMLING
A work of art that allows students to travel from the Earth's mantle to space!
Lunde School in Fredrikstad has opened, and Ask Holmen has developed the sculpture "Magma" for the school's outdoor area. The work is inspired by the landscape and local quarries, and here students and visitors are invited to explore geology and astronomy in a work of art that bridges play, learning and mystery.
The sculpture consists of a stone circle with the monumental Magma in the center, surrounded by nine smaller sculptures named after the planets in the solar system. Each planet is made of a unique rock with its own geological history.
What's extra nice is that the entire installation is created from stone that was already in circulation, and that granite from the school site itself is integrated into the work.
